Opening is estimated for September, 2025. This opening date is subject to change.

20 Pickleball Courts are planned. 10 courts will be for the private use of residents of the Pelican Bay community. 10 courts will be for use by public players who are not Pelican Bay Foundation members.

10 pickleball courts will be for public use.
Our amendment to guarantee that 50% of the pickleball courts will be for public use was approved by the Pelican Bay Foundation and the Collier County Board of County Commissioners on 2/13/24.  The Amendment reads:

"Members of the public shall have access to 50% of the pickleball courts during the same days and hours as members of the Foundation.  No more than 50% of the pickleball courts shall be for usage by members of the Foundation."

Operating hours are 8:00 am - Dusk.

On 11/12/24, our requested daily schedule for the 10 public courts was approved by the PBF:

  • 8:00 am to closing: Open Play
  • 2:00 to 4:00 pm: Two courts available for lessons and two courts available for reservations

After the courts open, we will need your feedback on the schedule and any adjustments you would like to see. The public court schedule is posted on our BLOG: https://pelicanbaypickleball.com/blog/f/open-play-schedule

The PBF plans to implement a registration system for Open Play.

Please note: this is not a reservation for a specific court or time, but a way to hold a place for you during a designated block of time for Open Play.

How Registration Works

  • Registration opens 24 hours in advance.
For example, if you plan to play on Friday at 8:00 AM, registration will open on Thursday at 8:00 AM using the PodPlay app: https://podplay.app/
  • Capacity Limits:
    • Up to 100 players may register for the public courts
    • Up to 100 players may register for the private PBF courts
  • Walk-on Players:
Players who have not registered may still walk on, if space is available.

On-Site Sign-Up for Games

Once inside the pickleball facility, game sign-ups will be managed on a whiteboard, similar to the system currently used at Veterans Park.

Skill-Based Court Division for the public courts

  • 5 courts will be designated for players under 3.5 skill level
  • 5 courts will be designated for players over 3.5 skill level

A September opening is beneficial—it is typically less crowded, which will allow time to fine-tune systems and procedures before peak season.  Please email your suggestions to: pelicanbaypublicpickleball@gmail.com

The public players will have the option of paying $10 per day, OR $95 per year.

The courts have been pre-wired for lights. However, the County has not approved the addition of lighting for the pickleball courts at this time. The PBF plans to seek approval for lights sometime after opening.

There is no benefit for a PBF member to purchase a public membership, because if all PBF courts are in use, the Amendment to the Management Agreement prohibits PBF members from using more than 50% of the total pickleball courts. In other words, a PBF member cannot use a public court if all PBF courts are already occupied.

Court usage is defined in the Management Agreement and the Amendment to the Management Agreement. The Management Agreement is the contract between Collier County and the Pelican Bay Foundation that defines management of the pickleball and tennis operations in the Pelican Bay Community Park.  It is important that both PBF players and public players adhere to the terms of the Amendment.

The Amendment was approved on 2/13/24 by the Pelican Bay Foundation and the Collier County Board of County Commissioners.

The Amendment reads:

"Members of the public shall have access to 50% of the pickleball courts during the same days and hours as members of the Foundation.  No more than 50% of the pickleball courts shall be for usage by members of the Foundation."

The Amendment prohibits Foundation members from using more than 50% of the 20 pickleball courts.

To understand why PBF members cannot use both the PBF courts and the public courts, it’s important to consider the second sentence in the Amendment to the Management Agreement:
"No more than 50% of the pickleball courts shall be for usage by members of the Foundation."

Amendment to the Management Agreement

The Amendment to the Management Agreement was reviewed by both the Collier County Attorney and the Pelican Bay Foundation Attorney. It was approved by the Pelican Bay Foundation (PBF) and the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) at the BCC meeting on February 13, 2024.

The full text of the Amendment reads:

"Members of the public shall have access to 50% of the pickleball courts during the same days and hours as members of the Foundation. No more than 50% of the pickleball courts shall be for usage by members of the Foundation."

The second sentence clearly states that no more than 50% of the courts may be used by Foundation members. Therefore, if all 10 PBF courts are occupied, PBF members are already using their full 50% allocation. The Amendment prohibits Foundation members from using more than 50% of the 20 total courts.
